Cars, Pt 2
Gonna take a look at some cars today anyway.
But first, I’m going to see if I willbe able to insure the cars that I look at. No point buying something I can’t drive for fear of crashing. Not that I plan to crash it, but just in case I get the urge…
$1000, $1500, $2000, $500 per annum depending on where I go, and what I use the car for (business use, that is, not for using it to hammer nails into low fences or anything challenging like that). Well, that’s not too bad I suppose, it IS, after all, just for me, not more hiding behind the ‘named driver’ section of Mum’s insurance. Sigh.
Ok, so I am in the car yard… I looked at the (1991) Astina, it suck’s it just like my (83) laser, but with a paint job. So I peruse the yard…. ooooer, that looks funky. A lonely NX Coupe (1991) is just sitting there, well lounging really - the car doesn’t look too uptight about who it is - and I think to myself, “Groovy”.
Alas, I went for a drive in it. I want it. Help me.
Checked insurance for it (only one quote) $1500 pa. Not bad really, considering this car looks (and feels) a hell of a lot better than the crappy (compared to this car) old Astina. Hmmm they ‘only’ want $17000 for it. ‘only’. Bugger, bugger, bugger, I should never have gone for the drive!
Later, back at the house, I look in the paper for NX Coupes. Oooer a 1993 model for $15000… $15000? Hey, what’s going on… So I rang the insurance place that will tell you the market value… for a 1991 NX Coupe market value is $12-$14k, but don’t take that as a final value, Sunny Jim. Well, DURR, if it’s got extras it’s going to be more expensive, of course! but this one I saw didn’t have any extras… unless scratches and holes in places have become hip???
I’ll have to think about that… next Saturday I think I may go on another foray into the dark caverns of the car yard people. After I buy my shoes (more on this later, oooooer a teaser!)
